Splurge or Save

Untitled #169

It's about that time of year where fall fashion is invading all the stores and it's time to stock up on new additions to the fall wardrobe.  I usually don't carry the same handbags in the fall as I carry in the spring and summer because I tend to pick bolder, darker, and more jewel-toned colors for the cooler months.  I've rounded up some of my favorite designer handbags on the web along with an affordable look alike, and I have to say I was seriously impressed with the look alikes this time around.

So what do you say, splurge or save?

Tropical Maxi

I've certainly got a thing for tropical print lately -- but I feel that it's such a timeless print that you can't go wrong with.  I am only 5'3 and have trouble finding maxi dresses that fit me.  I love the petite section of Loft because I am always able to find something that fits me length wise and width wise.  Some petite brands end up being the right length, but too tight.  This particular dress was on sale so it was a major steal!

The second I saw this dress online I thought it was so Golden Girls and so fabulous.  I read the review (I always do before making a purchase) and saw that it fits really large so I sized two sizes down (this is a Petite XXS which I am NEVER).  I am so glad I sized down because it's the perfect length and fit.  It is a loose dress but the belt allows you to tie it to fit your waist.

The best part is that it is on major sale, so definitely worth getting!  This is a piece I will keep in my closet for years to come.

I hope you all are having a great week so far!

Succulent Wall Planter

It's been awhile since I've done a DIY for the place.  Frankly, I just don't have the time I used to have so I end up buying most things new or vintage off Craigslist.  I wouldn't really classify this as a DIY but more or less "updating" something to fit my needs.

We have a really small patio in our place-- just big enough to house a table and chairs and one day a small barbecue (really small).  I wanted to add some greenery out there to make it feel more welcoming, but there just isn't any floor space to spare.  Two people fit on the patio comfortably and that's about it.  we have a slab of brick in the middle which luckily for me, already had a nail in it - perfect for me to hang something!  I searched for wall planters all over and this version from Wayfair was one of the more affordable options I found and I like that each plant would have its own pot. The only downside is that the rustic look was not going to go with anything else on the patio or with my house.  I have a black table and chairs with green and white palm leaf pillows, and the rustic tins didn't seem to mesh well.

I spray painted the pots white and the trim black with a Rustoleum laquer spray paint, and filled the pots with various succulents.  So far, my black thumb has been able to keep the succulents alive but we will need to knock on wood for that statement.

Do you guys have any tips to keep these babies alive?  So far I've used cactus soil, and watered only when the soil is dried out.

Happy Monday!

Happy Wednesday!  Things have been crazy busy on my front lately.  Last month was a whirlwind that came and went and this month is already off to another busy start.  I think it's a combination of working full time, blogging, going to classes (for work), and general life events.  The past two months have been filled with friends getting married, friends getting engaged, friends moving out of the state, birthdays, graduations, and more.  I feel so lucky to have friends with so many wonderful things happening in their lives -- I just need to find a way to keep my own head on straight with all of it!  Do any of you feel the same?

I want to focus on the bag in this outfit -- I purchased it for a wedding last month as I didn't have a structured nude clutch that would look good in formal attire.  For the price it is such a steal.  As you can see, there's a crossbody strap so you can wear it with your more casual outfits as well.  I also really can't resist anything with a cute bow detail.

I'm a big fan of olive green but typically reserve it for the winter months.  I was excited to find this short-sleeved wrap blouse so I can wear the color now, and well into the fall.  I picture this wrap blouse being super cute with a turtleneck underneath in the when it gets a bit cooler.

Are there any colors you reserve for the fall and winter months?
