Beauty: Volumized Poof & Loose Curls Hairstyle

volumized curls using garnier texture tease spray

I love retro-style hair do's because I'm all about voluminous hair that still looks put together.  They made it happen back in the day and I'm not quite sure how, but I do know how to make it happen now-a-days!  I have a lot of long hair, but it's very fine and the weight from the length can make it fall flat against my head.  I use a teasing comb for special occasions, but it's really not good for your hair.

I recently discovered the Garnier Fructis De-constructed Texture Tease spray and it's what flat-haired girls dreams are made of.  It's basically teasing comb in a bottle, without the harshness of the comb.  You simply spray about 12 inches from the root of your hair and you get instant volume.

I'm constantly looking at old pictures of Briggite Bardot for hairspiration - as she was the queen of volumized hair.  She always managed to have big, sexy hair with a girly twist, so I think this a modernized look she would totally adapt if she were in her prime today.

  • I started by separating the top half of my hair starting from the middle of my crown.  I sprayed some of the texture tease spray, combed back any loose hairs, and pinned it with a couple of bobby pins.
  • From there, I separated my hair into 1-2 inch pieces and sprayed the texture tease spray close to the root underneath the hair.
  • Once the whole head was sprayed with texture tease spray, I curled away from my face using a 1 1/4 inch curling iron.
  • The last step and my favorite one is to add a bow barrette.  I'm wearing a faux leather bow barrette like this one.  (it's only $2.80!)

Red Dress

red1 red red2 red5 red3
Dress: eShakti c/o  |  Bag: Tory Burch  |  Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell (old - love these leopard pumps on super sale!)

I've worked with eShakti in the past, and I loved working with them again to create this little number. eShakti is all about clothing that can be custom fit to your size, as well as custom aesthetic choices such as how long the skirt is, what type of neckline, and what type of sleeves.  I wanted this dress to be appropriate for work and play, so I picked a neckline and sleeve that would translate easily for both.

I love a good classic red & leopard combo, and I kept it simple with neutral accessories and makeup and let the dress do the talking.

Living Room Updates

The living room is coming along a lot quicker than we anticipated.  The major new things we've added are our new sofa, drapes, and rug, and those three things have made a huge difference.

To back-track a bit, we had our walls painted before we moved in.  I wanted to do them ourselves, but the room has really tall ceilings with beams and crown molding and I didn't trust myself maneuvering around them.  We had them professionally painted using Dunn Edwards Porpoise.  I didn't realize how difficult grays are until we painted this room.  I wanted a very true gray, and chose Porpoise because it was pretty close to the very black scale.  It definitely has a blue tint, but I ended up being extremely pleased with it since I'm wanting to decorate with blue tones.

Our place came with ugly vertical blinds, and I couldn't wait to rip them out.  In our apartment we had to leave them in because we were renting (if you're in a similar situation, see how I covered ours).

I found these industrial curtain rodson Amazon and love how they let the curtain wrap around the doorframe to give complete privacy.

The curtains are Nate Berkus for Target and are an amazing quality for the price.  I didn't want too crazy of a pattern, but also didn't want plain curtains, so I love that these give me a happy medium.

Our sofa is a custom piece from modshop, and we worked with them to build the sofa of our dreams. Our living room is the biggest room in the house and we wanted a huge sofa that could fit a bunch of people without being a sectional.  It's 9 feet long and really deep, and could fit four or five people really comfortably.

We had the hardest time picking out a gray fabric (again with those grays being difficult!) but modshop had a ton of different shades and fabric types so after a few days of mulling over samples we decided on the above fabric.  We requested tufting on the sides and brass legs.

Seeing your own creation & design come to life is extremely satisfying.  There is not a couch out there more perfect for us and every time we sit on it we can't help but gush over how much we love it.

And last but not least, here is a peek of our rug from RugsUSA.  If you've followed me for awhile, you know I am a huge fan of RugsUSA and even had the same rug in a smaller size in our apartment's office.  RugsUSA was kind enough to send me the papa-bear size of our rug for the living room and we are so in love.  Although, I don't think J or myself could possibly love the rug as much as a little pup named Zoey.  She'll bury her nose in it and roll around on it for hours which is such a sight.

If you're looking for a good neutral rug, I highly recommend this one.  It's the Moroccan Diamond Shag Rug in Grey in size 8x10.  It's extremely soft and has an expensive look for the price.  Be sure to check RugsUSA often as they usually have incredible sales.

Floral Joggers & iPod Shuffle Giveaway

dorothy perkins rose print jogger trousers floral print jogger pants hot pink t-shirt blouse floral jogger pants and t shirt blouse sole society tassel lariat necklace sole society korie clutch
Blouse: Nordstrom (old - love this pink t-shirt blouse)  |  Rose Print Joggers: Dorothy Perkins c/o  |  Shoes: Topshop  |  Clutch: Sole Society c/o  |  Necklace: Sole Society c/o

I've been a fan of the jogger style pants for awhile (see here and here) and always seem to gravitate towards them right before the fall season.  They are the perfect transition piece as they are lightweight for days that still feel like summer.

I am so pleased with my new clutch from Sole Society - the material looks like a saffiano leather, so it looks extremely high quality, for under $35.  My necklace is also from Sole Society, and is very Rachel Zoe if you ask me.  You can tie it yourself, or wear it untied, so it's extremely versatile.  I can't wait to experiment with new ways to wear it!

Hope you all have a happy Tuesday, and thanks for reading!

P.S. I am teaming up with Simon & Schuster to giveaway an iPod Shuffle and a copy of Ellen Hopkins' (NY Times Bestelling author of Crank) newest book RUMBLE.  Check out the offfical website here and enter below to win!

Entryway Reveal

glam entryway

Well, it's time to celebrate.  I can finally say that one part of our new home is "complete" - the entryway.  I originally got the Straus Wall Mirror from Kenroy Home to put above a desk for a vanity in the bedroom, but once it came in the mail and I pulled it out of the box, I knew it deserved to be somewhere that will be seen by everyone who enters the home.

The quality is amazing and it's very detailed.  You can't find great mirrors like this just anywhere.  Trust me - I've scoured Craigslist for the past year in search of a good mirror and have had no luck.

I did however, have good luck on Craigslist with the console table.  Console tables can get pretty pricey if you buy them new, and to be honest, none of the new tables I saw really struck my fancy.  I found this one on Craigslist for $30.  I love mixed metals, and it was a nice way to break up the plethora of brass we have going on.

The brass lotus bowl was a vintage etsy find, and it holds our keys.  The faux fur stool was a DIY ikea hack that I highly recommend doing if you are in need of extra seating.  It's so easy, cute, and functional.  Of course every entry needs some fresh flowers in an oh-so cute vase.  (P.S. JC Penney, if you want to bring this vase back, I won't be mad about it).

A big thanks to Kenroy Home for sponsoring this post.  All opinions stated are 100% my own.
