15 Minute Tofu Picatta

Do you love tofu in restaurants but are not sure how to make it at home? Do you find it bland? Have you never even thought about trying it? Well if you answered yes to any of those questions you’ve come to the right place.

I personally LOVE tofu. I don’t like the taste or texture of meat (I’m not a full-on vegetarian) but I prefer tofu over meat, any day. Even if you are a meat lover…here’s something to consider; you can get a package of tofu that will feed two people for about $1. Yeah…. one. friggin. dollar. (I got mine from Whole Foods oddly enough. That place is usually a whirlwind of overpricing.)

So…why not give it a try? You think it will lack flavor? Think again my friend…I am the condiments queen and I don’t eat ANYTHING unless it has ample amounts of flavor. I was craving chicken picatta the other night…sans the chicken. So I thought… why not make it with tofu? My favorite vegetarian restaurant does it…I can do it too!

I spent $4.95 at the store because everything else I needed I already had. Pretty amazing.

Ingredients:
    10 ounces extra firm tofu
    salt and pepper
    3 tablespoons flour
    2 tablespoons vegan butter, divided
    1/4 cup white wine
    juice of 1 lemon (about 2 tablespoons lemon juice)
    2 tablespoons capers

First, you’ll want to soak up any extra water from the tofu using a paper towel. 

Then you will need to cut the tofu into 1/8 sections. I cut it four ways and then cut it in half.

Next put salt and pepper on the tofu. I love anything garlic so I used garlic salt.

Next, drench each tofu piece in flour. 

Melt butter in a pan on medium heat. (Well that’s what I used but then again my stove is from the stone age).

Heat the tofu on both sides until you get a pretty golden brown color.

While you’re waiting for your tofu to brown, bring some water to a boil and put the pasta of your choice in. 
Leave the flour and butter leftovers in the pan, and use the wine to “clean” it so-to-speak. Now add lemon juice and capers. If it’s a bit watery still add a little bit more flour. Once thickened, pour over the tofu and pasta.

( I know… I use an obscene amount of capers… I. LOVE. CAPERS. Holler if you’re with me on this.) Once you’ve poured it on… CHOW DOWN! And relax in front of Bravo. Oh yeah…

So there you have it. Cheap, easy, fast, and delish.
