Floral Crop Top

Top: Bella Ivy c/o  |  Jeans: Forever21  |  Pumps: Topshop  |  Clutch: Meshka Design c/o

Enter my new favorite date night outfit -- this floral crop top and high waisted skinny jeans.  This look is super girly and fun, in my opinion.  You guys probably won't believe me but it's also super comfortable.  These F21 jeans are so ridiculously comfy - I got them a size too big so that they wouldn't squeeze my waist (a problem I find with high-waisted jeans).

I'm also wearing my favorite classic black pumps which are also extremely comfortable.  I've worn them almost every day to to work and definitely need to get another pair.  I kept my accessories minimal to let the blouse do the talking.

Pleated Midi

forever21 faux leather pleated midi skirt printed peter pan collared shirt pour la victoire prouve satchel maybelline the mattes divine wine lip swatch how to style a faux leather midi skirt
Top: Forever21  |  Skirt: Forever21 (runs big)  |  Heels: Levity  |  Bag: Pour La Victoire  |  Earrings: Forever21 (found in store, love these & these)

I love the look of a pleated leather midi skirt but even so, I'm not sure how long they are going to be in style for.  I was so excited to see Forever21 had an under $30 version so I could play around with the trend without committing to an investment piece.  I paired it with this cute printed peter-pan collar top, which has a similar print and texture to a tie.  Even though it's printed and a bit noisy, I think it's perfect for the office.  It's cropped so it's the perfect top to be paired with something high-waisted.

What do you guys think about pleated leather midi skirts?  Here to stay or just a fun trend to play around with?

One Room Challenge | Week 3 & 4

Well hello there!  Why yes, I did indeed fail to post my week 3 of the ORC last week.  My sincerest apologies if you are following along - I had a crazy busy week last week.  Luckily this week I have quite a few updates for you!

First up I have pictures of my favorite part of the room - the reclaimed wood desk.  The desk is something we had custom made by Dendro Co. and it blew our minds.  One of the shop owners Tara was extremely helpful through the whole process and helped up put our vision to life.  We needed something sturdy and a very particular size, and really wanted the reclaimed wood look while still being practical.  The legs are made of steel pipes and the desk top is sealed with a clear matte finish, which protects from food & liquid stains and enhances the grains.

We knew it was going to be good because everything on their site is amazing but I don't think we could have anticipated the quality.  The desk comes with a lifetime warranty but I don't think we will ever need to use it because it seems like it will last longer than lifetime.

The next item is the art above the daybed.  I haven't decided if its too small for the wall... we are definitely going to keep it but maybe I need a couple of other pieces?  What do you guys think?

I love the bull for so many reasons - I think it's empowering and whether you want to interpret it as charging on, or standing your ground, I think it's a good message for an office space.

The photo is from Minted called Staredown (size 24x18) and the frame from Amazon.  To be honest the frame isn't the best quality but it was really affordable and looks good when it's hung up.  You can only tell the quality when you're holding it because it's a super lightweight plated plywood, but on the wall it looks really nice.  Let me know what you guys think about the size... I'm in a pickle.

We purchased the Vittsjo bookshelf and I'm just working on styling it.  We really need to get an office chair and I'll be feeling much better.  Right now we are using a spare dining room chair that I've yet to get re-covered for the dining room.

Make sure you guys check out all the other people linking up here!

Classy Clown

feminine clown costume classy clown outfit cute clown makeup cocktail party halloween costume shabby apple santa monica dress girly clown costume
Dress: Shabby Apple c/o  |  Belt: Old (love this reversible mint/cognac belt)  |  Booties: Sole Society (old - similar style)  |  Clutch: Michael Kors (old - love this black leather envelope clutch under $50)

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays - I love the idea of getting to dress up as something you're not for a night.  J and I were talking about our past Halloween costumes today and I had to laugh because much to my mom's horror I picked the least girly Halloween costumes as a kid.  When I was about 10 years old I was a vampiress...complete with a long grey and black haired wig and fake blood dripping down my face, and the following year I was an alien with a glow-in the dark alien head and cape.  Not sure what the thought process was behind choosing these costumes, but the pictures are grand.

DIY costumes are my favorite since people can come up with some crazy ideas.  I partnered up with Shabby Apple to bring you guys this fun and simple DIY costume.  I think this girly clown costume is perfect for an office party or a grown-up costume party.  Because I am certainly not a fan of scary clowns (you seriously don't want to walk through a haunted maze with me), I made my clown friendly and fun.

What are you guys being for Halloween?  Do you usually DIY or stick to buying something?

The Waiting Game

chunky sweater and fedora hat for fall fashion colorblocked sweater and panama hat how to style a fall fedora hat fedora hat and striped sweater bcbg maroon panama hat jean-michel cazabat fringe booties pour la victoire prouve satchel
Sweater: Forever21  |  Trousers: H&M (old - similar)  |  Booties: Jean-Michel Cazabat  |  Bag: Pour La Victoire  |  Cuff: Prima Donna  |  Hat: BCBG via Saks Off 5th (not online - similar)

I saw this short sleeved sweater on the F21 website and knew it would solve my problem to "the waiting game".  The short sleeves allow me to dress for the fall without waiting for the weather to fully cooperate (aka the waiting game).  I loved the way the model styled hers with a hat and I recently picked up this hat from Saks Off 5th and have been itching to wear it.  I never thought I was a good hat person but I think it just takes trying on a few until you find one that works for you.  I definitely suggest trying the trend out even if you don't think you can pull it off.  It ties together an outfit so well and I now want one in every color.

I hope you all have a fantastic Monday!

Uniform of Success

fashionable office attire chic navy pantsuit dorothy perkins navy shadow dome jacket dorothy perkins navy shadow peg leg trousers chic office attire pantsuit with peplum top
Jacket: Dorothy Perkins c/o (on sale!)  |  Trousers: Dorothy Perkins c/o  |  Top: Topshop (old - similar)  |  Heels: Forever21 (old - love these blush bow heels)  |  Belt: Zara (old - love this Ted Baker version on sale)  |  Watch: Michael Kors  |  Bag: Pour La Victoire

My workwear wardrobe has been lacking a classic pantsuit.  I have plenty of crisp blouses, pencil skirts, and dresses, but did not have a single matching blazer and pair of pants.  I am sort of appalled I didn't invest in a good pantsuit earlier in my career.  I'm a firm believer that the way you dress sends a message, and I recently wore this to an important meeting.  Being young, blonde, and female certainly comes with an extra challenge in life as stereotypes work against you to send a message that you aren't serious.  A crisp, classic pantsuit certainly sends a message that you are serious, and also that you value the person or persons you are meeting enough to dress up for them.  The suit has, for better or worse, become a symbol of success.

I paired mine with a peplum top because I felt that because the pants were not super fitted, the top should be more fitted so as to not look sloppy.  I kept my accessories minimal with a sleek gold belt I got months ago from a Zara sale, and my classic gold Michael Kors watch.  I loved the simplistic, modern pattern of the pantsuit and did not want to distract from that with a bunch of accessories.

Do you guys feel the same way about sending a message with your choice of attire?
