I've got a thing for olive green and shades of burgundy right now... (if you follow me on instagram, and saw last night's photo, you already know that).  The second I saw these amazing heels I knew I had to make an outfit around them.  The are the perfect heels for the holidays and are at the top of my wishlist right now.

Golden Holiday Party Makeup Look

Consideration was provided by Target
I love any excuse to try out a new make-up look, and the holidays present a great opportunity to try a new look that is festive and perfect for gatherings.  Whenever I’m trying something new, or buying things for a specific look, I stick to affordable beauty products over the higher-end stuff.

Target has always been my go-to place for affordable beauty products as they typically have cheaper prices than a lot of drugstores, but I am especially impressed by their new Beauty Concierge service.

Carla, the beauty concierge at my local Target, immediately greeted me. I explained to her I wanted a “holiday” look that would work for any type of holiday party. She started with skincare. Being that she’s an esthetician, she knew her stuff.  She started rattling off all the benefits of the Neutrogena gel eye cream, and even though I couldn’t pronounce some of the stuff she was saying, I knew I needed it.

We moved to foundation, concealer, and eye primer where she helped me match my color in foundation and concealer. That was really helpful, because it’s tough to do when you’re by yourself and can’t see your face next to the bottle. She asked about my skin type and picked a foundation that would work with it. I love that it’s not super matte for the winter months where your skin can be more dry, and it’s got a great buildable coverage.

Next she led me to the new Maybelline Gilded in Gold holiday palette. This palette has pretty much everything you need, but she recommended a different eyeliner and lip color. I told her I love a cat-eye and she recommended a gel liner because you have more control, and even let me know that brush that came with it wasn’t the best. She led me to a thin angled brush that would work better for precision and I am so glad she did, as I would not have thought to do that.

She also pointed out that it would be fun and festive to put a gold liner on top of the black liner, which was such a great idea, and I absolutely love the way it turned out.

For mascara, she pointed out the new L’Oreal Voluminous Superstar mascara. She said it was the same formula as the Voluminous mascara that is highly coveted, but they’ve added the volumizing base.  She said if you layered it, you could achieve the same look as a certain designer mascara that is super expensive.

Now I consider myself to be almost an expert in make-up, but I definitely learned a lot of new things from Carla, and it was so nice to shop with someone helping who knew their stuff.  She knew a lot of dupes for high-end makeup and also a lot about skincare – and I think they go hand in hand. She was extremely helpful in helping me find affordable, good quality makeup to create my holiday look.

What do you guys think of the final look? I love the dark lip as opposed to a standard red, and the touch of gold eyeliner is so stunning, that even pictures don’t do it justice.

Grid Print Culottes

Grid print culottes gigi new york hayden satchel oxblood turtle neck soko x pencils of promise grid print trousers fall outfit for the office
Turtle neck: Boohoo c/o  |  Culottes: Boohoo c/o  |  Bracelet: Soko x Pencils of Promise  |  Heels: JustFab (similar)  |  Bag: Gigi New York c/o  |  Lipstick: TooFaced Melted Chihuahua  |  Earrings: Tory Burch

I won't deny I was a bit skeptical about trying out the culottes trend.  I love the way they look but was afraid I would be drowning in them.  Luckily this pair from is on the shorter side so it looks really tailored and put-together, in my opinion.

We had a pretty low-key weekend.  Both J and I had a lot of work to do so we stayed home mostly to catch up on things.  Weekends are the best get things done before the buzz of the week begins.  We did get to see the movie Steve Jobs, and thought it was really well done.  Have guys seen any good movies lately?  Let me know in the comments - there's so many I want to see!

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend, and thanks for stopping by!

Mini Dress & Over The Knee Boots

Dress: Skylar Belle c/o  |  Boots: JustFab (LOVE these)  |  Bag: Rebecca Minkoff  |  Bangles: The Peach Box c/o  |  Sunglasses: Prada  |  Lipstick: Too Faced Melted Velvet

One of my favorite combos right now is over-the-knee boots paired with a mini skirt or dress.  I am on the shorter side, so I like anything that will make my legs look longer.  These boots definitely do the trick (worn with jeans and a poncho here).

My bag and sunglasses are seriously two of my all-time favorite purchases, and probably the two items that get the most use out of my closet (the only other item that gets as much wear are these sunglasses).  They are both classic pieces that work in every season, and won't go out of style.

I hope you are all having a great week!

How chic and classy is this look for a holiday party?  I am having a total moment with over-the-knee boots right now, but they are definitely a statement maker.  If you prefer something low-key, this dress would be adorable with these heels.  I have something similar, and wear them all the time!

Office/Vanity Space Update

Recently I've had some major life changes that have required me to work from home (more on that in a different post), and I've been working to get a home office set up in our home.

Jesse has been working from home for a long time, so we had already reserved the guest bedroom for his office space.  Luckily, I already had a vanity set up in our master bedroom, and it works really well as a desk at the same time!  I actually love using it for both, and think it is a fantastic solution for those who are working with a small space situation.

My vanity was already set up for a vanity (mirror, acrylic makeup holders, etc.) so I teamed up with to add some office supplies to make the space appropriate for working as well. The desk/vanity pieces are from IKEA, as well as the side shelving.  I love having the extra space with the side shelving to display the office items.

Quill has recently collaborated with Cynthia Rowley on an office supply line which is right up my alley. My bedroom is already decorated in jewel tones, black, white and gold, which is exactly what the new line consists of.

One of my favorite things from the line is the adorable carton the copy paper comes in.  It's way too cute to throw away so I've used it to hold and hide documents and files I don't need to use every day.  I love how it brings in a pop of color.

Let me know what you think of the new "office" in the comments, and be sure to check out the entire Quill x Cynthia Rowley line here! (P.S. Some items are not yet available on, so stay tuned as they will be  coming soon!)
