Office/Guest Bedroom Color Reveal

In case you missed the first post of us contemplating color choices, you can check it out here.

We made our decision and finally painted the office/guest bedroom!  We ended up choosing Valspar Perfect Storm, which felt like the perfect color for a home office/guest bedroom.  It's a bold color, but it's calming and peaceful at the same time.

We love the way it makes the crown molding and plantation shutter stand out, and the color complements the floor and brass accents so well.

The paint type is the new Valspar Reserve with HydroChroma Technology and I can NOT say enough good things about it.  We only used 2/3 of a gallon for the entire room and only did one coat - the pigmentation is just that good.  There was no need to prime and it went on so bold and smooth.  The sheen is flat, which makes it look so expensive and luxurious.

This is the first room I've painted myself and I did a lot of research before hand, because I didn't want to mess it up, especially with such a bold color!  The biggest tip I have is if you are going with a bold color, make sure to caulk the tape down before you paint around the edges.  This was a LIFESAVER.  I had no paint bleeding under the tape.

The wall you see in these pictures will house our daybed (remember this post?  Stay tuned to see which one we chose!), and Jesse's desk will be on the wall to the left.  The new wall color is really cozy to me, so I want to pick accents that are warm and masculine at the same time.  I'm really loving the way mustard and navy looks next to it.

Here's what I have my eye on:

Fit & Flare

Dress: C.C. Lake c/o  |  Bag: Tory Burch  |  Shoes: Lulu*s c/o (old - love these strappy cognac sandals)  |  Bangles: Forever21

My favorite dress silhouette is the fit and flare.  It's so flattering and comfortable at the same time.  I love this orange confetti dress from C.C. Lake because orange is one of my favorite colors for clothing, and the deep v back is so pretty and cooling in the summer.

Speaking of summer,  I've been donning the milkmaid braids to keep my hair off my neck because it is hot hot hot!

And on a home note, Jesse and I spent the entire weekend working on the house and I can't wait to share some sneak peeks with you all!

Classic Summer Work Dress

kate spade claremont drive marcella slb1 slb4 slb5 slb2 slb6
Dress: Sugar Love Boutique c/o  |  Bag: Kate Spade  |  Shoes: Zara (old - love these black pointed toe pumps)   |  Watch: Michael Kors

My favorite work outfit in the summer months is a crisp, professional dress made from an airy fabric. The last thing I want to do is put on a thick pair of slacks and a stiff button-up shirt when it's 85 degrees outside.

Dresses can be tricky in a professional environment, but I find that if the dress is just a couple inches above the knee (no more) and doesn't show much skin on top, you are usually pretty safe.  In choosing a printed dress, like the one I'm wearing, I'll steer clear from bright colors.  Bright colors and bright patterns can be a bit much in an office setting.  I find that solid brights are more palatable and neutral prints don't command as much attention.

I love that this dress gives the illusion of a wrap dress but isn't one, and that it is pencil shaped but not so form-fitting that it's uncomfortable.

What do you look for in a dress worn in a professional setting?

What's In My Bag

I love seeing what other people carry in their bags, so I thought I would share with you all what's in my bag.  I've been carrying the Kate Spade Claremont Drive Marcella quite awhile now and I STILL love it today if not more than the first day I bought it.  (Check out my review for it here).  It's one of the best purchases I've ever made.  The blue color is no longer available but if I were to buy a second one, I would absolutely get the black version.

I can sometimes work 9 hour plus work days, so it's crucial I have all the necessities to freshen up throughout out the day.  If you have an office job, you know what I mean.  Spending hours in one singular spot can take a toll on your energy and your looks.

We have hot coffee available at my work, but there's something really off-putting to me about drinking hot coffee in the summer time.  I'll keep a few Bottled Starbucks® Iced Coffees in my fridge to grab and go on my way out the door to work.  I'll drink this after lunch for an extra boost of energy. I can often feel lethargic after lunch, so the Bottled Starbucks® Iced Coffee helps me feel refreshed and energized.

I have my Graphic Image journal, and my calendar from Target on me at all times.  I'm always needing to write something down, and I think writing it down in a journal helps keep things organized.  Any time I write something on loose paper I lose it in the depth of my purse, or it falls out, or I forget about it.

A quick and easy way to feel refreshed in the middle of a long day is by brushing your hair.  If you're like me, your hair gets super tangled throughout the day which can make it look frizzy and not as sleek as when you left that morning.  A quick brush with my favorite Wet Brush can fix that in a snap.

If I had to pick only 2 makeup items to wear forever, it would be mascara and lipstick.  That being said, if you use a waterproof mascara, you most likely won't have to re-apply that at all during the day.  Blush is a different story - I'm not sure if my skin eats it or what, but a little over halfway through the day, I'll notice a lot of color drains from my face.  A quick swipe of blush (this is Milani Baked Blush in Corallina), and a tinted lip balm or lipstick (L'Oreal Colour Riche in Fiery Veil) makes all the difference.

Finally, a travel sized perfume is my life saver.  It instantly makes me feel clean and refreshed, and I've found myself being so happy I have one in my purse at all times on multiple occasions.  This is L'Occitane Gardenia, and it's a really pretty, delicate floral smell that isn't overpowering.

What's in your bag?  Anything you can't live without?

Dressy Bohemian

hcb3 hcb2 hcb4 hcb6 hcb5 hcb1
Dress: Hippie Chick Boutique c/o (P.S. it is almost IDENTICAL to this Free People dress but is only $30 vs. $88)  |  Booties: Sole Society c/o (old - love these perforated sandal pumps)  |  Bag: Tory Burch  |  Earrings: Tory Burch  |  Necklace: Capwell + Co. c/o  |  Lipstick: Too Faced Melted Coral

So often we see bohemian looks paired with casual shoes and accessories, but I've noticed you rarely see a bohemian look dressed up to look a little more formal.  I was really craving something flowy and easy for a date night with J, but wanted to look dressy at the same time.  This Hippie Chick Boutique dress fit the bill, and being that it was a classic black color, it wasn't too difficult to find ways to class it up a bit while staying true to the bohemian feel.

I paired the dress with perforated booties from Sole Society, because the heel makes the look dressy, but the perforated design keeps it bohemian.  You guys know I have no qualms about a brown/tan and black combo, and I did want to tie in the cognac shoes with a matching bag.  My trusty Tory Burch bag has saved the day so many times.  It's such a great classic bag to have in your collection, that's proven appropriate for nearly every occasion.  The delicate tassel necklace was the cherry on top - the tassel went perfectly with the dress and the gold chain gives it a dainty feel.

Have you tried wearing a bohemian style look to a dressy event?  Or do you save it for the beach-bum days?
