Shirt Dress

Shirt Dress: Forever21  |  Heels: Jeffrey Campbell (old - have my eye on these)  |  Bag: Gigi New York c/o  |  Rings: Gorjana

Some days during the work week I want something comfortable, simple, that doesn't require much thought or hassle, and this dress is one of those dresses.

I love anything with a bowtie, so surprise surprise, I fell in love upon first glance!  The color allowed me to venture into fall fashion but if I wear the dress sans tights, it's still cool enough for this hot California weather we have.

5-Minute Candy-Covered Caramel Apples

Nothing tastes better in the fall than caramel apples. Making caramel yourself can be tricky, so I use a shortcut and melt caramel candy. These caramel apples will take less than five minutes and they're really fun to make — you can get creative with it!

If you have leftover Halloween candy, this is a great way to put it to use, and you won't feel as guilty about eating it. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, right? This would also be a fun recipe to do with friends for a fall get-together over wine.

Cook time: 5 min | Prep time: 1 min | Serves:

  • 2 bags caramel candy (I used Werther's)
  • 2 Tbsp. almond milk (or regular milk)
  • 1 bag Peanut M&M’s
  • 1 bag Twix
  • Bag of skewers
  • 4 apples

1.  Refrigerate the apples for at least 30 minutes. Make sure they're dry.
2.  Place the M&M’s and Twix candies in a resealable plastic bag and crush them with your hands or something heavy. Transfer the pieces to a bowl.
3. Melt the caramel candies with the milk in the microwave for 1 minute. Stir and microwave for another minute.
4. Place the skewers in the apples. Dip the apples in the bowl of caramel one by one, then roll them in the bowl of crushed candy.
5. Place the apples in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
6. Eat the apples as is, or drizzle chocolate on top.

Chartreuse & Stripes

Top: Chicwish c/o  |  Skirt: Forever21 (old - similar)  |  Watch: Daniel Wellington c/o  |  Shoes: JustFab  |  Bag: Gigi New York c/o

This bow top is a new favorite of mine.  I love anything that is vintage-inspired and this blouse certainly has a 70's secretary blouse feel going on.  The chartreuse color pairs perfectly with black and white and because the silhouette is simple, it doesn't compete with the stripes.  If you know me, you know I'll take any excuse to wear black and white stripes.

I've had a lot going on personally, which explains the slight absence on here as well as my instagram.  I may share a little more in a life update post, but for now I'm going to deflect to fashion.  Sometimes in life you just need to disconnect, and that's okay.  We often forget to live life in the moment and it's truly refreshing when you take the time to do so.  That being said, I am so thankful for this little community of positivity.  Whether we connect through this blog, instagram, twitter, or snapchat, I am thankful for every interaction I have with you guys.

I hope you're all having a great week, and thanks for reading!

Wet n Wild Mascara Review

This post is sponsored by Wet n Wild via Mode Media

If I had to leave the house with one makeup product on and one makeup product only, it would be mascara. I am a big fan of many Wet n Wild products, including their lipsticks and eyebrow pencils, but I have never tried any of their mascaras until now.

I look for a few things when it comes to mascara, but the number one thing for me is volume. I have very thin, blonde lashes so having voluminous lashes makes a world of difference to me. I also look for a good brush, as the brush will tell you what kind of look you will get. I was thrilled to see the Max Volume Plus Mascara has a rubber brush that’s tapered for easy reach to the inner corner lashes. I also love the fact that the bristles were evenly spread out so it would give a no-clump look.

Some mascara tends to be extremely drying (not only for your lashes, but also for your eyes) and this mascara definitely is not of the sort. It has a special blend of macadamia nut, jojoba and olive oils that condition your lashes so they won’t dry out.

Having voluminous lashes gives me an extra boost of confidence throughout the day, which is important to me. I feel girly, feminine, and when it’s a really good mascara I feel bold and powerful.

What do you look for in mascara? Does it make a difference with how you feel?

Olive Green Pencil Dress

Dress: Forever21  |  Bag: Cole Haan  |  Shoes: (old - love this leopard version)  |  Sunglasses: Karen Walker  |  Earrings: Forever21

I think I've mentioned this before, and I think it's a common problem - but I have a hard time finding a hat that doesn't look totally goofy.  I know the second I try it on and ask Jesse for his opinion and get a weird smirk that it has to go back to the store.  (So glad he can never lie to me - I can always count on an honest opinion!)

What does this outfit have to do with hats you might say?  Well, I went to F21 to return a hat I bought online and had to exchange it for something in the store (note to self, keep the receipt they send you in the box.)  I usually get really overwhelmed shopping in the actual store and try to shop online, but was pleasantly surprised to see this dress right by the register.  It does not look like a Forever21 dress to me - I could see this in Zara or ASOS.

I've been all about the color olive green since this outfit, so I was excited to find something similar in dress version that I can wear to work.

Peplum & Stripes

Peplum Blouse  |  Shorts (old - similar)  |  Shoes  |  Clutch  |  Sunglasses (similar)  |  Earrings

Well friends, we made it to Friday!  This week was a busy one but exciting as there are a few changes for both Jesse and I on the horizon.  This year has been a year of change for both of us which has made it go by really quickly, but it's all good things that we are thankful for.

On to the outfit - I've always been a fan of the peplum shape.  It's extremely flattering and versatile enough to wear to any occasion.  This top in particular is under $25 but you would never know it upon first touch and even feel.  I expected the fabric to be flimsy but it's very thick and sturdy, giving the perfect peplum shape.  It is definitely worth the purchase!
